During the uncertain times of 2020, children are learning differently whether it is at home, at school or a mix of both. Access to materials, books and education has been complicated by the pandemic and United Way of St. Johns recognizes that getting books into hands of the children of our community is essential to the learning and development of this vulnerable population. 

Partnering this holiday season with Barnes and Noble of St. Augustine, United Way of St. Johns was the recipient of 880 books, valued at nearly $3,000. The books, gifted by generous patrons of the St. Augustine B&N, are being distributed through various organizations.  

“It makes my heart happy to see these books distributed to children in our community, said Bev Slough, Chairman of the United Way of St. Johns Board of Directors. “Reading is so very important and I am thrilled to see our first delivery go to Fostering Connections. They do so much for children in foster care and it was just in time for the holiday!”  

Supporting community partners, schools, and families by providing early learning opportunities is core to the mission of United Way. United Way of St. Johns knows that it is through partnerships with local businesses like Barnes and Noble of St. Augustine that we can continue to serve and support our local community.
